...well, kind of. It's been a long time since I've posted anything but I haven't been entirely inactive! A little while back I finally found my holy grail, a proper plan view of the Delphinus which I'm fairly confident was lifted from the game. If nothing else, this was the source material needed to improve upon my first effort. So I did...
Now I don't mean to dump on my first attempt, it was actually fairly close considering the limited source material I had available, but a lot of improvements have been made. Hell, I was expecting a few slight tweaks and it quickly became a complete rebuild. A lot of the same pieces, but in completely different places!
There's finally a part halfway appropriate to represent the propellers at this scale, and now I know where they go, so there they are! Also the torpedo tubes have shown up complete with some switch out parts to have them open, even an attempt at a torpedo being launched. Although they're too tall I was really happy to get the windows down the side of the superstructure. The bow has been scaled down and the bridge has been scaled up. The bow bulge is much wider though, a tricky shape to achieve in the brick.
Couple of niggles, couple of things that didn't quite work. The bit that irks me the most is the anchor. So hard to satisfactorily render at that scale. Was hoping there'd be a minifig weapon that would fit the bill, but not really. Same for the turrets. It's also significantly more fragile than its predecessor, the price of sticking that much detail into such a narrow hull.
So there we go! I'm quite happy with it, but when inspiration strikes I might try a few tweaks. Another good source picture has given me an idea of what to try next, but it can be a slow process so don't hold your breath!
